CHURCH DESECRATED

ALTAR DAMAGED BY FIRE ADELAIDE, Dec. 30. A fire which the police believe was deliberately lit damaged the altar and tapestry in St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral before it was extinguished with a garden hose. It is the latest of a series of church fires occurring over the past year or more. A well-dressed man was seen to leave the church- before the outbreak, and an examination after the fire revealed that all 'the statues in the Christmas crib had' been knocked over.
