Centuries to Roberts and Sutcliffe

TWO TEAMS SHARE LEAD Several of Otago’s leading batsmen were in first-class form when the second series of matches in the Otago Cricket Association’s senior competition was completed on Saturday in perfect weather, the wickets generally being hard and fast. • A. W. Roberts made the highest score of the season when he compiled 181 not out for High School Old Boys against Kaikorai; and, playing for North-East Valley against Dunedin, B. Sutcliffe recorded his second century in consecutive matches with a total of 128. The Carisbrook veteran, A. R. Knight, scored 98 against his former club, Grange. L. Watt also went close to a three-figure total, scoring 88 runs in Kaikorai’s second innings against Old Boys. L. D. Smith gave a vigorous, display for 67 not out in Albion-Y.M.C.A.’s second innings against University. The best bowling performances were those of T. A. Freeman (Grange), six wickets for 48 runs, and L. J. Groves (Old Boys), five for 58. The latter took 13 wickets for 95 in the match.

Old Boys was the only team to score an outright win, North-East Valley, Grange and University winning ’on the first innings. The championship points are:—Grange 15, Old Boys 15, North-East Valley 10, University 6, Carisbrook 6, Dunedin 2, Kaikorai 1, Albion-Y.M.C.A. 1.
