CREATING PROSPERITY
TASK FOR PROGRESSIVE NATIONS Rec. 9 p.m. HAVANA (Cuba), Nov. 22 Opening the United Nations conference on trade and employment, Presi dent Ramon Grau urged nations with a high standard of technical progress to help industrialise under-developed countries. President Grau told the Assembly of over 1000 delegates from 62 nations that the responsibility for creating conditions of prosperity in an unbalanced world was theirs. He added: “ You should create a world trading system which will destroy every threat to the peaceful exercise of commercial activities.”
The chief United States delegate, Mr William Clayton, said the conference was “ the last lap on the road to an international trade organisation,” and that thejsuccess of the Marshall Plan, depended largely on the outcome of the Havana negotiations. All the leading nations ot the world except Russia are represented at the conference.
