EFFECT OF TARIFF CUTS DROP IN AUSTRALIAN PRICES Rec. 10 p*m. CANBERRA, Nov. 23. Many lines of clothing and household drapery, Scotch whisky,. . tobacco, cigarettes, and chocolates will 'be cheaper within the next few weeks, as a result of tariff reductions announced in the Federal Parliament during the week.

Some of the cuts, which will be trom 1 to 2 per cent., representing £5,000,000 in a full year, will become effective soon. The full effect of the reductions should be felt before Christmas. The prices’ commissioner has ruled that traders must reduce prices immediately on any new goods removed from bond since last Tuesday It is stated officially that the cuts can continue only* if the Government maintains its existing subsidies on tea and textiles and if overseas prices do not rise.
