MOTHERS’ PROBLEMS
MATERNITY SERVICES REQUEST FOR PUBLIC MEETING A request that a public meeting should be called in Dunedin to discuss what is described as the increasingly serious position in regard to maternity services is to be made to the Mayor, Mr Cameron, this morning by a deputation consisting of Mrs W. K. Cameron and Mrs A. K. Ibbotson, representing the National Council of Women, and Mrs F. N. Davenport and Mrs W. A. Warburton, representing the Dunedin Mothers’ Clubs of the Plunket Society. Mrs Cameron, who is president of the Dunedin branch of the National Council of Women, said last night that the intention of the deputation was to convey to the Mayor the concern felt by members of women’s organisations regarding the difficulties facing those who required maternity services in Dunedin at the present time, particularly in- respect to accommodation. It was proposed, she added, that the public meeting should consider information which would be supplied by responsible officials, who would be asked to attend. “ From what we learn from these people,” said Mrs Cameron, “we hope that ways and means will be found to alleviate the present difficult position and to obtain for our mothers some feeling of security.”
