ONE UNION WANTED
BUILDING TRADE EMPLOYEES Industrial Correspondent WELLINGTON. Nov. 23. Steps will be taken this week and next at union conferences towards the establishment of one comprehensive union for the building trade in New Zealand. Carpenters’ and plasterers’ representatives will consider initial steps. The New Zealand Carpenters’ Union at its annual conference adopted the report of the national executive, which said that the executive was convinced that one union would be in the best interests of the building trade, and proposed the adoption of the slogan: “A national building trade union before next general election.” While it would be no easy task to achieve this objective, said the report, it had at least been made less complex since the Federation of Labour went on record in favour of organising along the lines of industrial unionism.
