MR T. ANDERSON MAYOR MR H. S. WATSON HEADS COUNCIL POLL Mr T. .Anderson, a former Mayor, was elected by a majority of 50 votes over his Labour candidate, Mr F. C. Smith, for the Port Chalmers mayoralty, the voting being close in both polling booths. There are 39 declaration votes to come, but these cannot effect- the result. A feature of the poll was the number of informal votes cast—s 6 in a total poll of 1120. The result was made known at about 8 O’clock. ' ' The retiring ■ M a y° r « Mr H. S. Watson, who did not again seek that office, was returned at the head of the poll for the Borough Council. Due to the retirement ot a number who served on . the last Borough Council, the personnel of this body has undergone considerable change, but all the councillors who again , faced the electors were returned.
