FOOD FOR BRITAIN

HEAVY CONSIGNMENTS ARRIVAL BEFORE CHRISTMAS P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. Evidence of the importance of New Zealand Aid to Britain, within the next 48 hours alone five refrigerated food ships will leave this country bound for the United Kingdom. Between them they will carry about 40,000 tons of meat, butter, and cheese. From Wellington, the Port Pirie and the Port Chalmers will sail to-morrow for London with full cargoes of refrigerated food and parcels. From Lytetlton to-day, the Port Huon sailed for Liverpool via Panama and the Port Hobart for London via Capetown. From Auckland, the Somerset sailed to-day for Liverpool. On Friday, the Paparoa will depart for Cardiff. All going well, these ships should be in Britain some days before Christmas, when their cargoes will be doubly welcome.
