HOSPITAL POLICY
EFFECT ON COUNTRY DISTRICTS LABOUR CANDIDATE’S ADDRESS Mr J. D. Brown, the official Labour candidate for the Hospital Board for the northern electorate, spoke at Goodwood on Thursday night and at Dunback on Friday night. Mr Brown, who was supported in his address by Mrs Ethel McMillan and Dr D. G. McMillan, dealt with Hospital Board policy, particularly as it affected country people, stressing the need for district nurses to be stationed at Waikouaiti and Palmerston. He pointed out the difficulties country people had in seeing specialists at the Dunedin Hospital Out-patients’ Department, and said that if returned he would press for a punctual appointments system. After dealing with other rural hospital problems. Mr Brown spoke of his interest in the two institutions near his home at Flag Swamp—namely, the Palmerston Cottage Hospital and the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium'. Both meetings closed with the carrying of unanimous votes of thanks.
