HOMING PIGEON CLUB
The Taieri Homing Pigeon Club held a race on Saturday for the Atkinson Cup. The 23 birds, representirtg nine lofts, were liberated at Kaikbura in fine weather. The winning bird flew the distance in 7hr 35min at a velocity of 1147.72 yards per minute. The results were:—J J°nnson’s Air Ace 1, S. Preston s Flash 2, W. and E. Atkinson’s Johnny 3, F. Johnstons Sparkle 4, W. McCloy’s Checkmate 5. PERSONAL Mr Sawell, from the Waimate High School, will take up his duties on Monday as first assistant in the Mosgiel District High School secondary department. BOWLING 'CLUB The following are the results of the match played on Saturday against the Caversham Club (Taieri names first) : Riach 20, Mackay 18; Wylie 25, Barham 18; Stevenson 19, Jenkins 15; D. Thomson 22 James 17; Gibson 19, McAuliffe 18: Skinner 18, Scott 13; J. Thomson 14, Bating 18- Steven 12, Campbell 21; S. Cousins 28, Melville 13; Smith 24, Butcher 16. Taieri 8 games, Caversham 2. SWIMMING CLUB On Saturday afternoon the official opening of the Taieri Baths for the season was held The afternoon was warm and sunny, ’and 80 or more enthusiasts tried the water. The prospects are good for the season, and many attractions are in store both for swimmers and spectators. It was very pleasing to see the improvements made to the outside of the baths. An energetic committee has, during the winter, cultivated and planted in trees, shrubs, and flowers the area between the baths and the Silverstream.
