RELIGIOUS FILMS

HIGH EDUCATIONAL VALUE Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. Reports of experiments in the use of films for religious purposes were given by several ministers in a debate on the Visual Education Committee’s report at the Presbyterian Assembly. “There is a lack of good religious sound films so far, but the committee has a fine film strip lending library,” said the Rev. F. R. Belmer, convener. New films were being obtained, some from overseas, and some made by the committee. Typical of these was a good informative film strip on new housing in New Zealand. The Church was becoming aware of the educational value of the film strip, said the Rev. J. W. Olliver, who gave instances of their use. especially in youth work. Secular films could be used for religious purposes if an introduction or follow-up were added. “We have had advice that new religious fims are on the way from England,” said the Rev. W. B. Black, a member of the New Zealand Religious Film Society. The society was endeavouring to build up a full lending library of moving film and film strip.
