PHILIPPINES STRUCK BY TYPHOON
Rec 8 p.m. MANILA, Oct. 31. A typhoon signal, indicating imminent danger, was raised here to-day as the weather bureau said a storm was 60 miles away from the city, but would probably be deflected by the mountains to Clark Aviation Field. 50 miles north of Manila. One vessel was lost and two others are in distress as the result of the typhoon, which roared across Samar Island and headed towards Manila Bay The fate of 27 members of the crew and the two passengers of an interisland ship which sank in Batun Bay. Northern Mindanao, is not certain, but it is believed they got ashore. Two other ships signalled they were aground.
