HEAVY ESTIMATIONS REPARATIONS FROM JAPAN SUBMISSIONS BY ELEVEN . COUNTRIES Rec. 11 p.m. WASHINGTON, Oct, 30. Initial reparations claims against Japan submitted to the Far Eastern Commission by 11 countries are estimated at 54,000,000,000 dollars, says the ‘ Associated Press. The estimate is based on a claim by the Philippines for more than 4,000,000,000 dollars, which she said would represent 15 per cent, of the entire reparations Bill.* The claim by the Philippines is the only one which has so far been submitted in terms of dollars as well as percentages of the total reparations payable by Japan. The list of percentage claims is headed by China, which wants 40 per cent, of the total. On the basis of the Philippines’ claim, that would be about 12,000,000,000 dollars. Other percentage claims are: Australia, 28 per cent., the United States, 28, the United Kingdom, 25, India, 12.5; Soviet Union, France the Netherlands, each 12, New Zealand 2 and The size of the Japanese reparations pool, on which the Far Eastern Commission is basing its tentative calculations, is not revealed, but it is believed to be about 14,000,000,000 dollars. The 11 nations submitted to the commission estimates not only of the percentage to which they considered themselves entitled, but also the percentage to which they considered all other nations were entitled. 9 n that basis, the claims of all countries made on their own behalf totalled 204.5 per cent, while their estimates for other countries totalled only J2 per cent.
