EXCELLENT RESPONSE

STREET DAY APPEAL ORDER OF ST. JOHN “The public response to our appeal was excellent.” said Miss A. M. Buchan, secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association in Dunedin, last night. “When all the returns are in, we expect to have over £IOOO, compared with last year’s total of about £900.” Miss Buchan said that, in spite of the inclement weather, the collectors responded very well to the call to duty yesterday morning, and corners all along the shopping areas of ’George and Princes streets were well manned, in addition to a produce stall in the Octagon. “We need a new ambulance.” said Miss Buchan, “and public generosity shown in the results of the appeal indicates continued interest in our work, and augurs well for our future plans.”
