WINTRY WEATHER
Snow on High Country
The weather this week was wintry, with some rain and'sleet and snow on the high country, and there has been very little growth. Wheat The main topic of discussion is the price likely to be ruling for the coming season's wheat. It is expected that a much better price will be ruling for the 1947 crop, and the area to be sown will be dependent on the prices offering. New season's crops are making good growth and the prospects are favourable. Warmer conditions are now needed for these crops.
Oats.—There are practically no oats offering from the country and it would appear that the season is closed. Millers have been finding it very difficult to obtain sufficient stocks to complete their oatmeal orders. Potatoes.—ln view of the drive for further production, growers are being urged to increase their area for potatoes. The area sown in potatoes in North Otago to date is not a large one. Seeds.—All markets are exceedingly quiet and sales are very difficult to effect. There is a surplus of all lines in store, but with. the rape sowing it is expected there will be a better retail inquiry. With the better prices for wool •and‘meat this season, growers are more inclined to sow down new pastures.
