CEREAL CROPS
GROWTH RETARDED BY WEATHER SEED MARKET QUIET A week of cold, wet weather has retarded the growth of all crops. Sowing has now been completed, except in isolated instances, and it is apparent that an increased acreage of wheat and oats will be harvested in the coming season. The deliveries of all last season’s wheat are completed, and there are just sufficient supplies of fowl wheat available in the Dunedin markets for requirements. The same can be said of oats. The demand for chaff can be met from. the small stocks held in store. The supplies of table potatoes remain adequate for requirements. The small quantities remaining in store have in most cases to foe picked over. It does not appear that there will be any marked increase in the acreage of table potatoes planted this season. Steady deliveries of seeds are going forward from the local stores to farmers The export trade remains quiet, with an occasional inquiry of just sufficient volume to keep the market from receding any further.
