The first century of (lie season in North Otago was scored in the first day's play at Oamaru. but not in a competition match. The St. Kevin’s-Kurovv junior game was cancelled, and a " scratch ” Albion junior team took the field to give St. Kevin’s a game, but nevertheless a score of 157 (retired) was a fine performance. This was credited to Wills, a St. Kevin’s first eleven player, who also took four wickets for no runs. Incidentally. St. Kevin's made the fine total of llfit) runs.
The first day's play left the Oamaru AUnio’i game in an interesting position. \T. Dick batted well to make 52 not out in Onmaru’s total of -218, and Union had lost four wickets for 93. Horn still retains his batting form and made 32 . and if Rnwslorn continues to bat as he did last Saturday his 20 not out should be increased considerably before lie is dismissed. There is little between Albion and Onmaru B on the first innings, with the scores (10 and 7fi respectively. Sutherland (23) and .T. Mathicson <2B 'not out) were top-scorers of their respective sides. The bowling figures were good. Currie taking three for nine, Mathieson two for two. and Zimmermnnn two for seven (Oamaru). and McLaren four for nine and Firth two for 12 (Albion). The weather was unfavourable for the Labour Day matches, but. nevertheless the visit of two Dunedin teams gave added interest to the beginning of the season. University gained a margin of 19 runs over Waitaki, the school team declaring at 143 for nine wickets, and University 'making 102. Six of the schoolboys reached double figures, \jtdth Barlow on top with 33. but except lor Baker and Goff, 50 retired and G 5 retired. the University side did not get going. For the visitors Orr, three for 21, and Coombs, three for 31, bore the brunt of the attack, and for Waitaki Burrows, three for 31, and Harris, two for 30, bowled well. Oamaru made a good showing against Carisbrook. the opening batsmen giving the side a good start with 71 on the board before a separation was effected. They declared at 131 for six wickets, all the batsmen but one getting runs. D. Hall was run out at 44, B. Dick reached 36 before being stumped by Milne. M. Dick made 26 not out. S. Dick 25. Kelk 21 retired, and Scott 12 retired. Smith and Fraser for University each secured a wicket, but, the bowling figures were not impressive. University were all out for 65, and here again, except for Milne 23 and Smith 14, the figures were anything but impressive. For Oamaru, Gunn bowled well, taking four wickets for 12 runs in four overs, and Currie took two for 13. / Teams for To-morrow Union.—Juniors: Blair, Allington. Collins, Dunns. Forbes.
