ORDNANCE CORPS
COMMANDING OFFICER RETIRES P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. The retirement of Lieutenantcolonel E. L. C. Bown, 0.8. E., was announced to-day by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones. Colonel Bown joined the First N.Z.E.F. in December, 1914, and after serving overseas, where he was wounded, was commissioned in the New Zealand Staff Corps in 1919. On the outbreak of the last war Colonel Bown was chief ordnance officer at the Main Ordnance Depot, Trentham, and also commending officer of the New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps. As such lie was tesponsible for equipping all the armed forces in New Zealand and the Pacific, and for maintaining the clothing requirements of the Second N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East. The Minister stated that Colonel Bown had been a most popular and etflcient officer, and his retirement would be felt both by his corps and the army as a whole.
