HEALTH STAMP SALES DUNEDIN’S CAMPAIGN QUOTA RAISED The total first-day sales for Dunedin city in the Health Stamp Campaign amounted to £7507 18s 4d. The outstanding returns in the compilation of this record amount were as follows: Dunedin Chief Post Office £4734, St. Kilda £902, Moray Place £BIO, Dunedin North £4Ol, South Dunedin £175, Gardens £124, Forbury £lO3, Green Island £55, North-East Yalley £sl, Roslyn £36, Mornington £3O. The following telegram from the Director-general of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr P. N. Cryer, was received by the chief postmaster, Mr J. P. Hanrafty, yesterday:—Hearty congratulations on splendid effort in' attaining in Dunedin city the district quota for campaign on first day.” Although the returns from the country are not due until October 7, it is already evident that country postmasters are meeting with a splendid response in their areas. This is indicated by the progress reports concerning first-day sales, the amounts of which are not included in Dunedin citv’s record total. , Returns from the country include the following amounts for first-day sales:—Balalutha £225, Alexandra £164, Cromwell £136, Ranfurly £7B, Palmerston £7O, Roxburgh £59, Middlemarch £SO. and Owaka £4O. The first-day sales for the whole of the Dunedin postal district amounted to approximately £9OOO, which is several thousand pounds more than any previous figure for the district. As an indication of the remarkable result achieved on the first day of the campaign, it is interesting to note that the complete total for the Dunedin district for the full period of the campaign from October 1 to December 31 fast year was £BBOO. The sales in Dunedin city alone represented approximately 1,000,000 stamps of the two denominations.
