FOURSOMES TOURNAMENT WARD AND WHITE SUCCESSFUL Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 1. Playing almost monotonously accurate golf, C. Ward and R. White defeated W. Shankland and H. Roberts 9 and 7 in the semi-final of the Daily Telegraph’s professional-amateur foursomes at Birkdale. They won the first eight holes. Ward and White were out in the remarkable figure of 33 for this severe course, In the other semi-final Max Faulkner and D. Cameron beat A. Lees and J. Fitzsimmons 3 and 2. In the final Ward and White defeated Faulkner and Cameron 2 and 1. Two favourite, pairs, von Nida and J. Morton Dykes, and Henry Cotton and Charles Stowe, were defeated in the second round. Cotton and Stowe were defeated by one hole. Von Nida and Dykes were eliminated by the Belgian professional, van Donck, and the Scottish amateur, J. C. Wilson, who won at the nineteenth. In the quarter-finals, Shankland and H. Roberts beat Horne and H. C. Longhurst at the twentieth, Faulkner and D. Cameron beat van Donck and Wilson at the nineteenth, A. Lees and J. Fitzsimmons beat R. Burton and J. Flaherty 7 and 5.
