By the Sporting Editor October 4 .. .. Dunedin J.C. October 4 .. .. Te Aroha J.C. October 4 .... Hawke’s Bay J.C October 4 .... Reefton J.C. October 4 .. .. Otaki-Maori RC Jottings Nominations for the Gore meeting are due on Monday. The six-year-old gelding Tuapeka (Wlid Chase—Counterblast) has joined A. E. Didham’s stable. Handicaps for the South Canterbury meeting are due on Monday, and those for the Wellington meeting on the following day. Likes Soft Going Boolamskee will appreciate the softening of the tracks at Wingatui and it will not be surprising if he runs prominently to-morrow. Wingatui Novice Thomas, who is engaged in the Novice Handicap to-morrow, is a four-year-old by Man’s Pal from Queen of Song He is in G. Fielding’s stable.
Winner at Reefton Strathconan, a winner at Reefton last Saturday, is a three-year-old bay filly by Nightmarch from Strathallyn, by Balboa from Spean Bridge, the dam of Auctor, who was raced by the Dunedin owner, Mr D. P. Wilson. Not Starting Oberon, Edwin Fox and Harley will not be started in the Dunedin Guineas tomorrow. Harley has been turned out for a spell. Ban on Sage King The V.R.C. has decided not to let Sage King race in Victoria. The Salmagundi gelding is held on lease by Mr A. Scott, but is owned by W. McEwan, who was disqualified in connection with the running; of Albino. Showed Promise The Wild Chase gelding Glen Cona showed promise in his race at Wingatui last Saturday, and should develop into a good winner. As yet, however, he is slow to find his feet at the barrier. Fought on Gamely Flibbertigibbet showed courage in her division of the Trial Handicap last Saturday and fought on gamely when tackled by Pageantry. With a more experienced rider to-morrow, the half-sister to High Counsel may improve on her second of last Saturday. Recent Form Disappointing The Bulandshar gelding Hakim has not been placed since he finished fourth in the last New Zealand Cup to Catterick Bridge, Langue d’Or and Golden Souvenir and his more recent form has been disappointing. A. E. Didham has him looking an improved horse just now, however, and he may place him for a win before long. From Island Linnet Oklahoma, a winner at the recent Thames meeting, is owned by Mr D. H. Blackie now of Cambridge, but formerly of Dunedin. He is a three-year-old gelding by Siegfried from Island Linnet, by Song Bird from Unawed, by Markhope from Unawares, by Gipsy Grand from Ambush, by Vanguard. Brackets for To-morrow The following horses will be bracketed at Wingatui to-morrow;—Novice Handicap; Royal Lark and Silver Spray, Thomas and To-Hoo.
