SIXTH SESSION
TAIERI COMPETITIONS YESTERDAY’S RESULTS The fifteenth annual festival of the Taieri Competitions Society was continued last evening with a varied Programme of vocal and instrumental music, playettes and dancing. Messrs T. G. Boyd and B V Wright continued to act as judges stewards and time-keepers. The chairman for the evening was Mr A. F. Quelch. Results:— VOCAL MUSIC Judge: Mr James Clark Action Song in Character (9 and under 12) —Miss Dale Parata 1. Miss Jill Turvey 2, Miss Karen Simpson 3. • Action Duet in Character (under 15). Miss Joyce Clarkson and Miss Patricia McGrath 1, Miss Nola McMullin and MiaS Irene Mason 2, Miss Peggy Anne Turvey and Miss Jill Turvey 3. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC ' Judge: Mr James Clark Piiano Solo (16 and under 18).— Miss Gwenyth Dunn 1. Miss Margaiet E. Marshall 2. Miss June Rose Tregilgus 3. Some of the competitors did not fully understand the music they were playing, said the judge, and their interpretation was inadequate. The winner, however, had played a difficult piece verv well. STAGE DANCING Judge: Miss Ngila Slowley Operatic (12 and under 16). —Miss Shirlev Stewart 1, Miss June Stewart 2. Dance Duo (14 and under 18).—Miss Shirley Stewart and Miss June Stewart 1, Miss Elaine Urer. and Miss Rosalie Aitken 2. , Dance Duo (under 14).—Miss Lenore McDonald and Miss Beverley Grocott 1. PLAVS Judge: Mr Bernard Dunne Playette (limit of 12 players under 12; 15 minutes). —Mrs Lobb’s pupils (“The Armchair”) 1. Mrs Lobb’s pupils (“The Gipsy Charm ”) 2. The competitions will be continued this evening with a good programme of vocal music, playettes and plays.
