STRIKERS ARRESTED
TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES IN SHANGHAI Rec. 11 p.m. SHANGHAI, Sept. 29. Fifty striking employees of the French Tramway Company were arrested by the Shanghai Woosung garrison to-day. The command gave no reason for the arrests, but Labour sources said the men were being held “ on suspicion of being connected with subversive activities.” The strike began two days ago over a wage dispute. British Tramway Company workers joined the French strikers and Shanghai now faces a complete stoppage of tramway services.
