MILK ZONING
Sir,—Tile strangling grip of the octopus of Socialism and Government control has once more won a victory as shown by the recent decisions on milk zoning. Competition is out, and an autocratic planning body states who shall deliver where. Oh. yes, the poor consumer has a redress. If he does not like the milk his vendor supplies or if the service is not satisfactory, he has his remedy, Of course, he is .not permitted to give his business to an efficient competitor. Oh, no, but he is permitted to walk to the nearest dairy day in and day >ut, Sundays included, rain, hail or shine, and purchase his milk there. So. sir, perhaps the consumers, that large body of inarticulate sufferers, should be warned. Do not under any circumstances quarrel with your milkman! His service may be poor, his milk even worse, but say not a word. He may ,for ever refuse delivery to the door. He may leave dirty stains on your front step from spilt milk. His farm may be poorly run, his cows weak, and his milking shed just up to the standard of the department and no more. He may be rough, rude and noisv, but do not complain. This is efficiency. No longer will the wastes of competition and a reasonable free choice of vendors be permitted. No, a thousand times no! We, the consumers, are fortunate to be allowed to inhabit this brave new world of planned economy, and we must take what we can get and like it or lump it. Hurrah for service with a smile under Socialism. —I am, etc., August 28. Jonas.
