OLD VIC COMPANY
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND BLOCKED BY TRANSPORT DIFFICULTIES N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 11 p,m. LONDON, Sept. 4. The proposal that an Old Vic Company, headed by Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, should visit New Zealand this year is at present blocked by transport difficulties. Recently, Mr Nash asked shipping companies in London whether it would be possible to provide accommodation for the company of approximately 40, but it was pointed oftt that this could be done only if the New Zealand Government was prepared to ask for special priority over immigrants and othei-s already on the companies’ lengthy waiting lists. y Unless such a request is forthcoming, it does not appear probable that the necessary transport can be arranged until the shipping position is considerably easier than it is at present.
