MEN’S LONG DISTANCE EVENT POSTPONED

PA NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 2. A heavy snow fall thwarted members of the Race Committee controlling the New Zealand Amateur Ski Championships at Mount Egmont after they had declared this morning that the men’s long distance championships would be run regardless of weather or snow conditions, says a Press Association message from New Plymouth. Six inches of snow fell at Stratford Mountain House in three-quarters of an hour, and cars could not .reach the plateau. The snow lay so deep on the roadway that It would have taken competitors too long to travel on foot from Mountain House to the ski-lng grounds and the Race Committee had no option but to postpone the event.
