Johnny Palmer, of North Carolina, won the Western Open Golf Tournament at Salt Lake City with a 72-hole total of 270. breaking the Western Open record of 271 set at St. Louis by Ben Hogan. Ed. Oliver and Bobby Locke tied for second place with 271, and Jimmy De Maret and Ed Furgol tied for fourth place with 273.
