ARTHUR STREET SCHOOL
CENTENNIAL PREPARATIONS On September 3, 1848, the Bruce Street School was formed in Dunedin, and teachers and punils subsequently moved to the old Stone School in Dowling street, now Tennyson street. From there the teachers and pupils subsequently moved in 1877 to the existing Arthur Street School. In September, 1048, the Arthur Street School proposes to hold celebrations to mark its connection with the centenary of education in Otago. To this end a meeting of ex-pupils was recently held at the school, and was presided over by the chairman of the School Committee, Mr T. H. Mulholland, who outlined the committee’s reemmendations. The headmaster, Mr H. D. Robertson, and Mr W R. Brugh also addressed the meeting. The following programme for 1948 was approved:—Friday, September 3, social evening: Saturday afternoon,- September 4, reunion at the school and dinner in the evening; Sunday. September 5, commemoration service: Monday, September 6, a ball. A Centennial Committee composed of the following members was formed to organise the functions:—Messrs W. R. Brugh, H. G. Fountain, Bohm, W Olliver, J. Paul, McGrath, Patton, Mesdames Mitchell, McCrostie, More, Waugh, Day, Misses J Burt, H. Sellar, B. Hornal, Stenhouse. This committee will act in conjunction with the School Committee.. At a subsequent meeting of the committee the following executive was appointed, and will also act as a Finance Committee:—Mr W. R. Brugh (chairman), Miss H. Sellar (secretary pro tern), Misses T H. Mulholland, W. J. Olliver. R G. Fountain, Mrs More. Subscription lists are to be opened. The first donation has been received from Miss Burt.
