BRIGHT PROSPECTS

OTAGO WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM The Otago women’s hockey team had a good win against Maniototo on Saturday. Opportunity was taken to try out several reserve players, but even so Otago was victorious by 7—l. This is a good augury for the prospects for the “K” Cup tournament in Wellington. Otago is sending only one team this year, and following the match last Saturday the team to travel to Wellington was announced. The goal-keeper selected is H.j Black, of Momona, who has shown most consistent form this season. The fullbacks are P. Hendrv and H Sanders of Kings. Half-backs include E. Davidson, of Training College, whose selection as captain will meet with general approval, N. Smith, of Momona, N. Kelliher and E. Blackie, of Kings.«and K O’Toole, of University These form a very strong section, and, since no reserve full-backs have been included, may be called upon to deputise in the last line of defence. The forwards chosen are E. McGregor and H. Jeffe-ies of Kings: E. Poddy of Otago; W. Middleton, D. Stinson, and J. Fraser, of Momona: and B Sparrow, of University. GOOD COVERING WORK After playing well throughout the season the Albany A halves did sterling work on Saturday last to keep a keen bunch of Training College forwards at bay. In the two previous games played in the Senior Men’s Hockey Competition this year between Training College and Albany A, the latter side had only got home by an odd goal, and, with the absence of their two full-backs, B. Bedford and E.. Kofoed—last Saturday it was thought that College would stand a strong chance of winning. Th£ halves—R. McKinley, K. White, and A. Jack—however, played on top of their form, as did W. M. Carr, the goal-keeper.
