CONFERENCE AT MELBOURNE MR K. McL. BAXTER TO ATTEND Industrial Correspondent WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. Mr K. McL. Baxter, secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, has been elected to represent the New Zealand trade union movement as visiting delegate at the biennial conference of the Australian Council of Trade Unions opening at Melbourne on September 1. Mr Baxter defeated Mr W. B. Richards (Dunedin), Mr A. L. de Pina (Nelson) and Mr R. Freeman (Auckland) in a ballot, the result of which was announced to-night. Mr Baxter will leave for Melbourne on Tuesday next. He will be authorised to associate the New Zealand Federation of Labour with the Australian trade unions’ aid to Britain drive.
