Notus is reported to be in good racing cond tion for the Metropolitan meeting. Cabin Boy will probably need a race or two to bring him back to his best form. Stakes Candidate Artful, a candidate for the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes, had one unplaced start last season. He is a bay gelding by Wrackful from Pretty Match. Only One Success Pre-eminence had only one win last season and that was in the Final Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter, at the Canterbury Park meeting in May, when he cleared out from the field and won>by five lengths. The Great Bingen gelding is assessed on 4min 28sec and will start from the 12-yard mark in the Speedawy Handicap on Saturday. From Rocks Ahead Rendezvous is bred to win races, being by Dillon Hall from Rocks Ahead, the dam of Navigate. As a four-year-old las! season Rendezvous was raced seven times for one third placing, but she filled the eye r/ one likely t,o develop into a good winner. Engaged In Stakes Whipster, one of those engaged in the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes, is a bay colt by Quiie Sure from Bantam. He had one unplaced start last season. A Smart Improver Raspont is a smart pacer by Sandydale, and at the Oamaru Jockey Club's meeting in June he had an easy win in a division of the Oamaru Trotiing Handicap, being followed home by High Command and Gallant Thorpe. He has been nominated for both trotting events at the O.ago Hunt Club’s meeting and provided he is in his besi form lie will race prominently. Showed Promise Keymaster is a four-year-old gelding by Dillon Hall from Hymenial, by Worthy Bond from Lovematch, by Four Chimes from Bay Belle, by King Harold. He bad two i-aces last season and showed promise by finishing third in one of them. By Red Shadow Viceroy was placed in two of his five races last season. At the Ashburton meeting in June he finished a good third to Sir Vivian and, Congo Song In the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, no fewer than 17 horses being behind h’m. Viceroy is by Red Shadow from Kaulala and will add interest to the Three-year-old Stakes on Saturday. Very Much Improved Mountain Hall was a very much improved pacer last season and if he has maintained that improvement he should be prominent in the Heathcote Handicap a Addingon. Since being trained by A. Motz his record reads four starts for two wins and two seconds
