SUPPLY OF TEACHERS
ADVICE TO EDUCATION BOARD Advice from the Department of Education on the supply of teachers was received at a meeting of the Otago Education Board vesterday. At present, it was stated, the following students were in training:— Third-year specialists, 88; Division C' students, 43; second-year students, 730; first-year students, 779; homecraft students, 34. In addition, 23 men are being trained in Auckland as woodwork and metalwork instructors. A total of 211 certificated teachers have leave for full-time study, of whom 187 are expected to be free to resume teaching late in 1947 or early in 1948; 16 certificated teachers and 50 uncertificated are still on leave with the forces; 602 probationary assistants will complete their training on January 31, 1948, most of whom will be available for general service. It is proposed to admit to the Training College next year 950 students, about 50 Division-C----students, and an estimated 30 students in other groups. Those present at the meeting were Messrs J. I. Fraser (chairman). D. C. Cameron, W. Jacobsen, J. V. Riach, N H. Colquhoun, C. E. Richards, H. A. Brough, G. S. Fincham, and R. R. Hunter.
