THE FIERY CROSS
SOUTHERN ITINERARY DETAILS UNCERTAIN Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. The arrival in New Zealand of the Fiery Cross, the traditional Scottish emblem, appears to have taken Scotsmen in this part of the Dominion unawares. They had little or no knowledge of its impending arrival and know little of the journey it is making. The Fiery Cross will arrive in Wellington to-morrow morning at 10.40 bv aeroplane from Auckland. On its arrival it will be received at the aerodrome by Mr Hector Smith, secretary of the Wellington Association of Scottish Societies. . ■ , Mr Smith said to-day that from Wellington it would go forward to Christchurch, but he had no knowledge of what southern centres the Fiery Cross would travel to beyond Christchurch. The purpose of the arrival of the Fiery Cross in New Zealand is that it should serve to direct the attention of New Zealanders, and Scottish New Zealanders in particular, to the Scottish exhibition of industry to be held at Edinburgh from August 25 to September 30. and to the international music festival to be held at the same time.
