AUSTRALIAN BAN AMENDED

SYDNEY, Aug. 15. The decision of the- Federal trade unions working shipping and aircraft to amend the ban to apply only to ships carrying munitions or service personnel for use against the Indonesians will have the effect of freeing the important Holland-American Line, which carries considerable cargoes between Australia and Europe. The union decision followed a blunt warning from Mr Chifley to the Australian Council of Trade Unions that continuation of the complete ban would seriously disrupt Australia’s economy. The decision was made by the representatives of the same group of 17 unions which imposed a complete ban on Dutch ships and aircraft on August 5 and was unanimous.
