Baseball Club Strongly Opposes Rain-making Scheme

NEW YORK, Rec. 10,30 p.m. Aug. 13. The attorney for the Ropeka (Kansas) Owls Baseball Club threatened court action to-day if the Topeka State Journal “ persisted in its 'announced plan to produce rain by the dry-ice method.” The attorney sent a letter to the newspaper stating: “ Falling water and wet grounds are not conducive to the best interests of the business in which the Owls owner has a sizeable investment. The owner lias a right to the free and uninterrupted use of the hot and dry atmosphere which he has learned to love and enjoy without being molested by busybody rain-makers with high-falutin methods.”. The newspaper decided to restrict its rain-making efforts to the daytime instead of at night, when the Owls play.
