Miss Margaret Knowles, of Henfield, Sussex, who left an edtate valued at £296,724, bequeathed £IO,OOO to her nephew, Kenneth Knowles, on condition that he does not become a Communist, and the residue of the estate is left to her nephew’s children on condition that they are not brought up on Communistic lines. Money In Stamps London’s largest firm of stamp auctioneers claims to have established a world record with a total auction turnover of £294,348 during t{ie season just concluded. ' The most important sale was that of the late Mr Benjamin Goodfellow’s British and dominions collections, which realised over £46,000, not including his valuable New Zealand collection, which was sold by private treaty. Lucrative Post for Lord Wavell Field-marshal Viscount Wavell, who has retired from the army, has been appointed resident London director of De Beers diamond syndicate. The Evening Standard’s diarist says Lord .Wavell’s pension as field-marshal is £I6OO a year and tfyat on the basis of last year’s earnings his salary as director of De Beers will bring him another £2750 annually. Helicopter Mail Service While the Royal Family is at Balmoral, official documents for the King's signature are being flown from London to Dyce airfield, Aberdeen, and thence to Balmoral by helicopter. Gift to Cardiff The Marquess of Bute has offered his 800-year-old Cardiff castle, constructed in Norman times on the site of a previous Roman fortification near the centre of the present city of Cardiff, as a gift to the Cardiff City Corporation. Extensive gardens and grounds surround the castle.
