SECOND J FORCE RELIEF FIFTY CASES OF MUMPS REPORTED Official New Zealand Correspondent with J Fotce Rec. 11 p.m. KURE, Aug. 2. Cries of “You’ll be sorry’ from the men of the famous destroyer H.M.S. Cossack, which took part in the Narvik raid, greeted members of the second relief for the J Force when the troopship Dunera berthed at Kure on Friday afternoon. Goodhumoured banter was exchanged between the Kiwis and the sailors. Because of more than 50 cases oi mumps on board since leaving Suva, a number of medical officers were rushed on board . the Dunera from British Commonwealth Occupation Force Headquarters, but the smp was given a clean bill,, the patients be ln S transferred to army hospitals at rture and Kiwa. No women were affected. The only surgical case was Private C. C. Nicholls, of Tasman, who was operated on for appendicitis. The draft was greeted by the commander of the 2nd N.Z.E.F., Brigadier S H Crump, and the senior Medical Officer. Colonel T H. Pettit, and the matron of the General Hospital, Miss C. MacDonald. The Dunera is expected to sail from Kure on her return to New Zealand on Thursday.
