HONOUR FOR CHRISTCHURCH GIRL A signal honour for a woman has been accorded - Miss Joan Patricia Morrison, a graduate of Canterbury University College," who last year left New Zealand to study at Oxford University as the holdei of a Sir William Hartley Scholarship. Miss Morrison recently represented New Zealand at the conference of the International Student Service, which was held in July in Denmark. News has been received that she has been elected to the Assembly or Executive Committee of the International Student Service. The only oher woman member of the assembly is Miss Gretta Riddell, daughter of Dr W A. Riddell,, formerly High Commissioner for Canada in New Zealand. It is considered a great honour tor the New Zealand International Student Service to have a representative on this body, as all countries are not represented Members are chosen for their personal •qualifications only. The appointments are made initially for two years, and the 26 members of the assembly include French, Dutch, Belgian, Danish Czech. English Canadian, American, Indian, Chinese, Swedish and Jewish persons. A number of the members are distinguished professors and doctors who are well known in Europe. Miss Morrison has herself had a distinguished scholastic career. While a pupil at the Christchurch Girls’ High School she was awarded the Lissie Rathbone Scholarship for excellence in English and history, and on this she proceeded to the University. At Canterbury University College she was equal with another student for the John Connal Scholarship She graduated M.A. with first-class honours in history. She will continue to study at Oxford University for another two years.
