OUTSIDE SCIENTISTS’ VISITS ATOMIC RESEARCH IN BRITAIN .Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 4. ' The head of the atomic research station at Didcot, Professor J. D. Cockcroft, who made it a condition of his appointment that his work should not be restricted by unnecessary secrecy, is believed to have told the Government that he cannot stay on if visits by “ outside ” scientists are barred. Professor Cockcroft’s staff of 100 scientists backed his protect to the Minister of Supply. Mr John Wilmot. The scientists are angry at the recent tightening of security regulations. They maintain that the study of nuclear physics cannot be developed without free interchange of work with other researchers.
