VISIT TO DUNEDIN

CARNEGIE FUND DIRECTOR STUDY OF EDUCATION On a visit to collect information for the use of framing the post-war policy of the corporation, Mr Whitney H. Shepardson, director of the British Dominions and Colonies Fund of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, will arrive in Dunedin by air next Saturday. Although the details of his visit have not yet been completed, it is planned to hold a reception for him on Saturday night to which all professors and senior lecturers at the University, as well as University Council members, have been invited. It is understood that he will spend much of his time studying educational work in Dunedin. Among the subjects in which Mr Shepardson takes a particular interest are economics, political science, history, government, and anthropology in relation to contemporary life. He has also stated'his wish to meet people engaged in library work. . Mr Shepardson is expected to review the results of grants made by the Carnegie Corporation. It is pointed out that New Zealand has benefited considerably from these grants. Many educational agencies, including libraries and the New Zealand Council fo£ Educational Research, which is arranging Mr Shepardson’s tour, have received assistance, and research workers have been given travelling scholarships for study overseas.
