KINGS EXTENDED
The Taieri team seems to be the only side in the competition to refuse to be intimidated by the prospect of meeting the redoubtable Kings team.' Right from ■the outset Taieri pressed hard and bustled its opponents to find every weakness in the Kings defence. The first score came from a penalty bully after 10 minutes’ play, when M. Borley was successful for Taieri. Taiere pressed for most of the first half, but Kings gradually took the offensive -and was rewarded when H. Jefferies equalised. In the second half Taieri again took up the attack, and a brilliant solo effort by M. Borley put the country side in. the lead. Thereafter, the game became most exciting and very keen, with the Taieri defenders excelling in breaking up dangerous attacks by the fast Kings forwards. The game was repeatedly interrupted by infringements for obstruction, “ sticks,” and off-side, but all of these could be largely accounted for by the over-keenness of the players on both sides. Ten minutes before the end of the game, N. Gourley succeeded in scoring after failing full length to reach the ball. The umpires were Messrs F. L. Scrivener and G. Schmidt.
