CHARGE OF MURDER
ELDERLY MAORI DIES OF INJURIES , P.A. AUCKLAND, Aug. 3. An elderly Maori, found suffering from a severe head injury in a paddock near his home at Kaikohe, later died following a seizure about 0.30 a.m. to-day. His son-in-law has been arrested on a charge of murder. The deceased was Akaripa Pou. aged 69 years, a farmer, of Kaikohe. When
relatives found Pou at 11 p.m. yesterday he was bleeding profusely and, although conscious, was unable to speak. Lying beside him were a golf club and a bottle containing soft drink. After being taken to his home he was attended by two district nurses, as no doctor was available. The man arrested is Ngaone Te Bata Tahere, aged 29 years. Pou was a director of the Kaikohe Co-operative Dairy Company and a progressive farmer. He was a prominent leader among local Maoris.
