Jewish Illegal Immigrants
DISEMBARKATION OR DEPORTATION Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 3. Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent says that the British Cabinet decided that the Jewish illegal immigrants on board the three British transports off Port Debouc, who do not disembark there within 48 hours, will be deported to a distant tropical territory under British control. The Foreign Office spokesman said that Britain agreed to allow the international Red Cross to send doctors on board the transports. A man claiming to be a Jewish terrorist telephoned Scotland Yard early this morning that the Foreign Office would be blown up in half-an-hour, but nothing happened. The refugees have been told of the decision that whatever else happens they will not be sent to Cyprus or Palestine. Whether this will affect their attitude remains to be seen, says the Paris correspondent of The Times. There are reasons to suppose that the majority would be willing to disembark, but they are subject to pressure from a determined minority.
