EXPLOSION IN SYDNEY
FUMES FROM PETROL TANK IGNITED Rec. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 3. Men, women and children were bdown off their feet and six received burns when a petrol tank of 500 gallons capacity exploded in East Sydney. Detectives believe that fumes from the tank were ignited by a match or cigarette. The explosion shattered many windows, started several small fires, and wrecked a shed. The tank was lifted 12 feet in the air and clothes on a nearby line were set on fire. The tank had been removed from a hole in the ground and had recently been emptied pending installation elsewhere. The police have discovered that a four-year-old boy who is one of the injured was playing nearby with matches.
