GAELIC SOCIETY

MONTHLY CONCERT At the monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society, held on Saturday night, Chief J..Lachlan Thomson was in the chair with Chieftain W. H. McLeod as associate. Before commencing the musical programme, the chief welcomed the following visitors:—Mr and Mrs A. Smith (Queenstown) and Mrs Carey from Fife, Scotland. Mr I. Cameron (Wairarapa), president of the Dominion Council, was also present. The death of Mr A. Macdonald was referred to by the chief; who asked Piper S. Waldie to play a lament as a triblite to his memory. Items were given as follows;—Choir, Gaelic songs; Misses Gwen Bell and Molloy, Irish jig; Miss Rutherford, Gaelic song; Miss B. Denford, songs; Miss G. Bell, Highland fling; Miss O’Kane, songs; Piper s Waldie, Highland airs: Miss M. Moynihan, songs; Miss D. Mills, songs; Mr McDougall, Gaelic songs; Piper C. McMillan, a selection of marches; Mr M. Hood, songs; Chieftain Bard A. MacLennan, comic Gaelic songs; Mr E. Fletcher, songs; Mrs M. Oliver, recitation. Mrs Higgins was the accompanist, and Piper Waldie played for the national dancing.
