MAORI ROLL
GOVERNMENT’S DECISION EXAMINATION OF ELECTORAL LEGISLATION P.A. WELLINGTON, July 3. “Legislation will soon be introduced in the House or. Representatives providing for the establishment of a separate electoral roll for Maori voters,’’ said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, to-day. He said the decision had been taken following representations by the four sitting Maori members and he had accordingly instructed the Electoral Department to do the preparatory work. ' Mr Fraser also said that after the hearing of the Raglan petition, he had asked the department to report concerning weaknesses and anomalies in the electoral law which may have become apparent during the hearing of the case. He said he had no objection to the setting up of a committee of the House- to consider the revision of electoral law as suggested by Mr A, C. Baxter while seconding the address inreply motion.
