FREEZING WORKS

CONTROL BY FARMERS GOVERNMENT SPEAKER’S PLAN Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, July 3. The use of the funds in the farmers’ pool accounts to enable the farmers to acquire the freezing works m New Zealand and run them on the co-opera-tive principle was advocated by Mr F. Kearms (Govt., Waimarino), m the Address-in-Rep.ly Debate in the House of Representatives to-night. He said if this were not done, then they should be nationalised, but he would prefer to see them acquired by the farmers. Mr Kearins said that 12 months ago there was £ 17,500,000 in the pool accounts of the farmer, which must have increased considerably in the past year Many farmers thought these accounts should be used to bolster up returns in a depression, but he thought they should be used to buy out the whole of the freezing works in New Zealand and to put them under co-operative control.
