RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

PROMPT COUNTER IN BRITAIN

Special Correspondent

Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, June 11. Following complaints that a Margate hotel was displaying a notice, “ Gentiles Only Accommodated,” the Minister of Food, Mr John Strachey, issued a warning that hotels discriminating against patrons on racial grounds might have their food permits withdrawn. The manager of the hotel said that Jews were welcome at his house, but the notice was intended to warn them that he could not cater for their special type of cooking and kosher meats. “It was perhaps rather thoughtless to phrase the notice like that,” he said. “I am not apologising, but I may change it to read, ‘ English cooking only.’ ”
