NOT UP TO OTAGO STANDARD

Writing from Melbourne, where he saw the Australian Inter-university Championships, Mr B. R. McKernan, a member of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic and a past president of the Otago Caledonian Society, expressed the opinion that Otago’s”’ three distance men—W H. Nelson. D. P. Hutton, and W. N. Burrows—would beat all the distance men he saw at the meeting. John Marks, holder of the Australian 1500 Metres record, had an end-to-end win in the 880 Yards and One Mile. Mr McKernan said that Marks is about Nelson’s build, and, like many Australian distance men, is determined to force the pace throughout his races.
