CENTENARY REACHED
AUCKLAND SAVINGS BANK P.A. AUCKLAND, June 10. The centenary celebrations of the Auckland Savings Bank, which has played a notable part in the progress of the city since it opened for busineson June ’5, 1847, began to-day. After a civic reception to special visitors and guests this morning, o' commemorative tablet was unveiled in the afternoon in the bank’s board room by the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg. On arrival at th bank, his Excellency inspected a guarr of honour of the King’s Empir< veterans. ’The official pa-ty then pro ceeded to the board room, where th‘ bank’s president, Sir Ernest Davis, prr sided over a gathering which include Lord Killearn, the Minister of Financ. Mr Nash, visitors from England, Aus \ tralia, and many parts of New Zea land, and prominent local cifizens.
